A Sad Little Ghost Is Lost Once Again
It's 30% Deeply Moving and lxx% Securely Boring
Warning: Spoilers
If you lot adopt a motion-picture show rich with dialogue, A Ghost Story is not for y'all.
There is very little speaking throughout the movie. Only one scene features much talking and it's not even a conversation. One human launches into a lengthy, detailed monologue about the infinite size of the universe and our relative insignificance within it. The man believes that the oral communication is profound and laudable, but in reality information technology sounds similar something a higher kid would say while high at a party.
The gist of the homo's speech expresses that the universe is besides vast for any of us to truly exit a legacy when nosotros die. The ghost (played by Casey Affleck) is especially compelled by this speech considering he has but died and is now especially compelled by things apropos his legacy.
The ghost observes what he cared about most while he was live. He haunts his business firm. He observes his wife, struggling to spotter her struggle to cope with his death. He wants badly to comfort her, but cannot. It'due south heartbreaking.
In addition to heartbreak, this movie evokes many other feelings: warmth, humor, colorlessness. Boredom comes up a lot. For every genuinely beautiful and moving moment of the movie, at that place is at least v minutes of emptiness. The runtime is short, but over 90 minutes, but information technology feels longer and could easily have been trimmed by 20 minutes.
One scene in item that involves a pie seems to drag on for at least four days, fifty-fifty though it really only lasts four minutes. In the moment, the scene is likely unbearable to many viewers. I plead for your patience. Do your best to empathize. Think about how yous would feel in the situation. Practice this, and the scene becomes haunting and powerful.
That's probably the best way to sum upward the movie—many scenes may experience ho-hum if given piddling thought, just are actually securely moving if given honest consideration. Not all scenes fit this description—some, no matter how much your squint, are just extended moments of vapid emptiness. The emptiness outnumbers the deeply moving by well-nigh ii:1, so this film requires patience and commitment. The movie contains no disharmonize, only contemplation and some glorious music.
If that sounds similar enough for y'all, requite this motion-picture show a hazard. Just fair alert: if you bore hands this picture show will feel similar a waste material of your time.

Imagine a joke that takes 90 minutes to tell, you never go to hear the bodily punchline, and function of the point is how long and incredibly boring it is to get in that location - even so it makes sense at the cease, and in some foreign way seems fulfilling. If this sounds like your cuppa joe, you might similar this flick. I'grand glad I watched it, but wouldn't scout it again, and tin can't recommend it.

Oh DEAR LORD. A Almost Awful Ghost Diameter
Warning: Spoilers
To begin, let me state that I actually LIKE "pretentious" movies and films that speak to yous on a dissimilar level. THIS, however, was pure torture and while I feel that the creators truly wanted to say something, it was More THAN Apparent that they didn't have Plenty to say then they filled it with mindbogglingly Boring and sluggish scenes.
SPOILERS:
I run across that many take already covered the scene with the pie, merely I experience that they didn't quite go the point across correctly or do the utter banality of it, justice.
You have a Total FIVE MINUTES (_time them_), although they truly feel like ten or more, of the main female lead doing zippo only EATING A PIE! And yes, she does and so rather well, in that it is meant to make yous uncomfortable, and it does, only non in the style I imagine information technology was intended to do so.
Trust me when I say that NO film EVER, in the history of films, needs a scene where for 5 minutes someone does nothing just swallow a pie. Beyond that, it is not counting the ten minutes it took her to walk into the house, put her mail down, walk around, stand at the sink, expect out the window, turn around and Notice THE PIE ... ...
.... OR for that matter, the forever minutes earlier in the film where she literally drags a breast or box of some kind to the curbside - and I must bring your attention to the utilize of the discussion DRAGS. The scene is shot in painstaking detail and unbelievable SLOWNESS as she does this, across her ridiculously lonnnnng front yard (really, can a forepart lawn exist that large or was it CGI?), and then does non cut while she THEN walks dorsum across her lawn into her house.
Oh! AND HOW, merely how, can we forget the never-catastrophe completely passionless / emotionless scene at the beginning where the couple is in bed? In fact, the word which fits this movie to a "T" IS "EMOTIONLESS". Trust me when I tell you that I take literally seen two Kleenex tissues at the bottom of a trash receptacle which had more chemistry and emotion and a bond than these two people had.
Honestly, it is just likewise much ... of zippo.
This film should have been a short of some kind, or else it needed more piece of work earlier it was released.
I applaud the creators in wanting to bring this movie to the screen, Just if you KNOW a project is not ready or not worthy, WHY do it and insult your viewers with such trash?

A Mind-Alteringly Realistic Delineation Of Man Life
This motion-picture show is simultaneously not for everyone, while also trying to demand anybody's attending. That statement may confuse some people, so please listen closely if you're intrigued, because this review if going to exist most me gushing on how incredible this film is. Whole critics seem to full general dear this film, average moviegoers seem to be pretty divisive on this movie in hindsight. Personally, I completely see how many would exist bored or turned off by this motion-picture show, so whether or not yous like this flick is up to you. Personally, this film opened my heed in means I wasn't expecting and I establish myself in a state of transfixion when the credits began to part. So, this review will definitely lean heavily on a recommendation to everyone, but please exist advised that the film itself is absolutely not for everyone. Now that I take that out of the fashion, let's dive in.
As a couple is nigh to movement out of their kickoff business firm onto bigger and amend things, the husband (Casey Affleck) dies in a tragic blow. The film then follows the wife (Rooney Mara) as she copes with her loss. The married man returns in ghost form, walking effectually the halls of the business firm, watching her every move, stating that people actually exercise watch over us later on they die. This premise is fantastic, but the visuals themselves and the way the film is constructed is what I feel may turn many people off. Coming off inexpensive by literally having the hubby dressed in a bed sail, the moving-picture show may seem cheesy to some, but that's non the point of information technology at all. From long takes of people sitting alone in a room to time travel in order to open up viewers mind's, this movie takes many risks, but I think they are all genius in their own right if y'all're in the proper mood when watching this film.
Going from many short films, to independent features, to a big blockbuster in concluding year's Pete'southward Dragon, managing director David Lowrey has been all over the business concern, so it was pretty clear that this was a passion projection for him, and that the amount of viewers this film gained didn't matter to him in the slightest. I think this was the best style to make a flick like this, because merely the most hardcore film fans volition probably discover it, which is where I feel it's all-time suited anyways. There is so much symbolism near the significant of life and which aspects of it really matter the most, just I feel every bit though many viewers won't grab on. Once over again, if you're in the right mindset and are open to literally anything, then I believe you'll have the same reaction to this motion picture that I did.
Many viewers like beingness able to chronicle to a graphic symbol when they speak to someone and open up almost themselves, but this pic is very far from anything like that. There are stretches of the moving picture that tin can last up to 30 minutes without a single word being spoken, leaving it up to your estimation on how they're feeling or what they're thinking. This is a very solitary-feeling picture that you need to be relaxed and open-minded about. In my opinion, when a motion-picture show can show yous a piece of imagery and take you understand what a character is going through, what they're thinking, all while giving y'all a sincere look at our planet as a whole, when information technology's accomplishing everything it set out to do, and then some. Simply put, sometimes showing things to an audience is much more powerful than having it explained.
In the end, A Ghost Story is strangely enough 1 of the almost powerful experiences y'all'll be able to see an all of 2017. Now, there isn't much dialogue, so you lot really have to pay attention and recall nearly every piece of imagery, but if yous're willing to do that, then I believe you will have a terrific feel too. If you lot're not into this film later the outset ten-20 minutes then you're either not in the right mindset or it's but not for you, which I completely understand. Many people will detest this picture show, but I believe the message itself is worth waiting for alone. A Ghost Story is easily ane of my favourite films of the yr and I tin't wait to watch it multiple times

This is probably a twisted practical joke
This film tells the story of a man who dies in a car accident. He goes back to his home every bit a ghost covered in a white sheet, and picket the earth goes by and goes on.
Casey Affleck must accept the least screen time ever for a leading credit. He appears in the film for a total of x to 15 minutes only. Anyone could have been under that white canvass, so it might not take been him.
This film lacks whatsoever story. It is so slow that I watched it at 3 times the speed and nonetheless thought it was far too ho-hum. Watching Rooney Mara consume a pie for seven minutes is not interesting. Watching a ghost standing motionless for three minutes isn't interesting either. In fact, the whole film is non interesting. It seems like someone'south very mean and twisted practical joke, past making a bad moving-picture show and encounter how the critics declare that they love it.

A Bold, Powerful and Beautiful Film
A Ghost Story marks David Lowry's render to picture palace since his 2013 indie hit "Ain't Them Bodies Saints". Telling the story of a young couple (Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara) who purchase a habitation and plan to starting time a life together in it until tragedy strikes. The Man all of a sudden dies and leaves the wife to fend for herself and build a life in the firm by herself instead of with the human being she loves. All while she is going through this in reality, the Human begins to haunt the home in a classical white canvass donning way. Throughout the years of being trapped to haunt this dwelling house, The Ghost too has to witness the love of his past life continue on without him and experience the moments of life without him. It is a beautiful and heart wrenching film that delves deeper into what grief does to non only a person simply to a ghost.
Whether you believe in an after life or non, A Ghost Story isn't worried nearly your behavior. It plays out like a fantasy and that's how it stays which really bodes well for it. It never reaches beyond what is happening with the Man and the Adult female and, of course, the Firm (which becomes a character in and of itself). David Lowry does a great job at setting up a "what if" scenario that all you can practise is ask yourself, "what would I practise in this state of affairs?" The scariest office of that is there is literally nothing yous can practise. That rationalization is probably scarier than near horror films out today.
The film itself is a very digestible xc minutes which is of a perfect length for this moving picture because it doesn't go overboard and forget what it is. Information technology's a horror film that is light on scares simply heavy on thoughts and brains. In that location's no real scares. The big scare is putting yourself in the shoes of the ghost. What would you do if you had to witness your loved one go through grief and y'all couldn't do annihilation about it? You couldn't comfort them. You couldn't hold them. Y'all could only watch. What if the person you loved moved on from you? What if they forget you? These questions are what made A Ghost Story scary for me. The level of helplessness that the pic portrays is horrifying enough to remind audiences that death is yet scary.
Overall, the picture is an experimental ghost story that shows Lowry in height form both as a writer and a managing director. The crass nature of reality is that death is lonely and he captures that perfectly. While many who take a look at the poster volition certainly think that the picture is simply another horror picture show trying to capitalize on some paranormal coin, A Ghost Story is much more than that. Information technology is cute to spotter, heart wrenching to experience and an absolute delight cinematically.

I cried for 40-five minutes afterwards the motion-picture show.
Alright. I confess. I am an emotional person. Afterward seeing the Plugged In review for this film, I cautiously threw this movie in on a slow, Saturday night. I assumed that information technology was going to be much similar the flick "Ghost," and that information technology would exist good, but not overly amazing. I was and so incorrect.
Non only did this picture show make me weep for virtually of its elapsing, but information technology literally made me sob so hard that I was afraid of waking upward the rest of my family unit is I cried in my bedroom at 11:45 at night. The film merely hits so close to abode. Time is the enemy of everyone. At that place's no going back, and there's no stopping it either. People laissez passer, relationships end, romances form and then pause autonomously. Zilch, at to the lowest degree in our physical world, ever stays the aforementioned. This motion-picture show beautifully illustrates this in a style that nearly American audiences don't seem to be agreement, which is why I am writing this review.
This movie deserves and so much more than recognition that it currently has; particularly on this site. While this is by no means an activeness-packed or on-the-border-of-your-seat motion-picture show, the pure amount of artistry and raw, unadulterated emotion establish in it makes stand up out in my listen as one of the best films I accept ever seen.
It's so uncomplicated. And so astronomically simple; and that'southward what makes information technology so magical. Whether it be the haunting image of a wrecked car or the heavily-spoken near scene depicting a woman eating an unabridged pie for over five minutes, every single shot is filmed with so much emotion, it makes you lot want to pause the picture show and reflect on every infinitesimal the story has to offer. Everything has a purpose in this film. Information technology all ties together in this cute, haunting tragedy mixed with a beloved song.
I know I'm just a kid. Yep, I may be simply seventeen. But I beg you lot, if the reviews for this pic on this site are making you think twice about seeing this, simply listen to what I have to say and sentinel it. No, it'due south non for everyone. If you're looking for a horror pic or a blood-splattered motility pic, skip this one over. Merely if you're deeper than that, and you actually want to experience something you won't forget, throw yourself into this i.
Information technology's sad to see that this beautiful masterpiece of American movie house is beingness so overlooked.

Incredibly Overrated and Dull
"A Ghost Story" is 1 of the most overrated and tiresome movies ever made. The IMDb User Rating, the title and the names of Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara lure the viewers that might expect a expert pic. Practise not waste your fourth dimension watching this picture show unless you have insomnia or whatsapp to download and read; or a mag or even a book to read. Otherwise you will certainly lose your patience or take a nap. My vote is one (atrocious).

Competition for Sominex
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start off by saying that if you see a movie named A GHOST STORY released to DVD in the first of October the odds are you're thinking this would be a good movie for Halloween, right? Well this movie is far from that. Yes, it involves a ghost, but that's as close as information technology gets to Halloween. And since information technology was released to theaters before October it may just be a coincidence. Simply exist aware that this is not a skillful Halloween movie. As a thing of fact it's not much of a good flick either.
The film opens with Casey Affleck every bit C and Rooney Mara as K, a young couple in beloved and well-nigh to move from a house they live in. Lying together on the burrow she tells him nearly when she was a trivial girl, how she would take notes to herself and fold them into the tightest, smallest way she could so insert them into the crevices of the firm she was leaving. Moving a lot as a child her intent was to have something there to remind herself of those times if she ever returned.
I of the odd things the film does is nor move in a linear fashion only just jumps forward to central scenes. One key scene involves the couple in bed when they hear a crash confronting their piano in the other room. Investigating they detect nothing disturbed and go back to bed. At that place they caress and kiss for what seems like an eternity and then go back to sleep. Next primal scene, C plays a piece of music he's equanimous for M to listen to. Next key scene Thou hauls a torso to the adjourn. Next key scene C is in a car crash outside their home.
The following scene moves the reset of the picture show frontward. M views the body of C in the morgue and then leaves. A lingering shot that seems similar forever just shows the sheet covered body lying there. And then it rises. This images moves the residuum of the movie forward, a sheet covered ghost. Returning to the habitation it watches M deal with her loss and move out. It watches new people move in and scares one family unit. It watches some other movement in which sets up the side by side biggest portion of the film.
I could describe it but this part is the nearly interesting part of the entire film and while taking time to make a point via dialogue it'southward merely a small portion of the fourth dimension spent watching this movie. And trust me y'all'll be noticing the time while watching as it seems to take forever to go anywhere.
While watching this film one discussion kept floating through my encephalon: pretentious. The definition of the word is "attempting to impress past affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed." That sums up this movie perfectly. In attempting to brand "fine art" the film instead induces boredom. If I were Sominex I would try and purchase the rights to this film as it induces sleep faster than that over the country drug.
Long shots of nothing, panning shots of scenes with cipher going on and the latest fad in pretentious films, the long drawn out gaze of one actor either at another or just at the camera, all are found hither. Affleck took some heat for some with his previous film MANCHESTER BY THE Ocean where some found it to be pretentious as well. I enjoyed his functioning there and withal recommend the film. But this flick is nothing more than art house self-pat on the back blazon pic making, a movie where those involved tell themselves how wonderful it is and how the masses just aren't smart enough to sympathize the complexities of art.
In reality the masses are quite aware of what art is. They know what is expert and what is bad. And to utilize a portion of a well turned phrase they'll besides encounter this picture and realize immediately that it is non Shinola but the culling.

Ridiculous
Not sure how this motion-picture show was e'er green lit. Mara and Affleck'south talents are wasted on a story with cypher substance. A grieving immature widow is haunted by her recently deceased married man. Looking scenes of Mara eating pie or listening to music. Very piffling to motility the story forward because we'll, there IS no story. The ghost is a man with a sheet over him who stands watching his beloved in various rooms in their business firm.
She moves out and a new family moves in. Ghost must be mad because he throws dishes effectually and scares the new family unit. Insulting drivel.

The occupants love, argue, play, fight, cry and get through various mundane activities of living. If you don't accept much patience, you'll exist giving up very quickly. Probably the nearly average viewer will find null over redeeming.

This is another example of a movie receiving dandy printing and positive reviews from critics so everyone has to fall in place and agree!! This is NO conjuring or the changeling (original) or poltergeist. Information technology's a film a 12 year former could have shot, scenes of complete wasted space like a woman eating a pie for v minutes, a couple cuddling and an overhead shot of both their heads no tal simply eskimo nose and boredom!! Even the 1 scene where the ghost throws dishes has NO emotion or intensity. Casey Affleck is an amazing player this is a complete waste if his talent. It'southward a ane at best. Watch the conjuring 1 or ii or picket George c Scott in the changeling. Even the original ghost story is meliorate. Completely boring and a amateur filming coiffure!! By far in my peak three of worst movies I ever saw
Amazing! Wonderful! Incredible! Those could be the words describing this movie. I simply forgot a couple words with it, that's all. Permit me rectify my fault. Amazingly boring! Wonderfully pretentious! Incredibly overrated! And so that'due south meliorate, that being rectified. Honestly it's one of the worst movies I e'er saw in my life. And I have encounter tons. You lot couldn't even spoil this movie by telling you virtually it considering in that location is merely zilch to spoil. Cipher happens during the entire moving picture. And all action shots, yes I know it sounds ridiculous when I say activeness shots, are manner also long. Guy is expressionless and laying on a stretcher, let's film that for a couple minutes. Girl is eating her cake while guy with sheet is looking at her, let's motion-picture show that for ten minutes. And even that the actress couldn't practice it right, never saw a woman swallow in such a vulgar way. Guy with sheet standing in the room while watching some boring stuff, permit'due south film that for near the unabridged movie. There is almost no dialogues so if you get bored just listen to some music in the meanwhile, or even better just don't watch this piece of crap. I've been looking the whole time how much longer I had to endure this total mess. At one point there was like 20 minutes left and the only thing I could think about was that I hoped there would be nineteen minutes of end credits. Honestly I tin can't understand why this piece of garbage gets such a loftier rating on here. At least I'thousand not the only one that thinks this picture show is truly awful. Avoid at all costs!

Dull, meaningless and uninteresting
The large problem of this movie is that information technology has no story or plot we may sympathize. It begins with a couple in bed and is followed by the husband lying dead in a mortuary or something like that (we don't know why or how he died or was killed) and getting up as a ghost covered with a white sheet with two holes for the optics which is a bad and primitive epitome for a ghost. From then on the movie evolves with the ghost walking here and there, to and fro importantly in his old house without being seen by anyone and without usa knowing what he is upwards to. Sometimes one or two ghosts more show themselvees without u.s.a. knowing who they are. To watch this movie is a loss of time imdeed.

Justification for IMDb to introduce ratings less than cipher!
Warning: Spoilers
Where to begin... Well for i thing, how the hell has it got a rating higher than i??? This was a terrible film, so boring and pointless. Actually, it was probably my fault because every film with Casey Affleck has been boring. Not sure if I'k allowed to swear only not just boring, but crap. Simply as bad an actor as his brother Ben. It's like the script writer writes a crap script and thinks "Who shall we get to human action in this crap film? Oh I know, 1 of the Afflecks! Simply it is a pretty crap script so it'll have to be Casey nevertheless again...!!!" And there you have it! Oh, and who wants to see the adult female eating a total apple pie in existent time or watch the husband in the morgue nether a sheet for 5 minutes. I hateful, I actually had to check to see if I had my computer on PAUSE! And then, my communication, stay abroad... stay 'very' away from this film. You'll thank me! Honest!

And so I tried to experience the magic in this motion-picture show and it felt more than pretentious than annihilation else
Alarm: Spoilers
Yeah I sympathise. Its like a proficient sign that you lot are watching a good motion picture is that you are so engrossed in a movie that you all of a sudden lean back in your chair and say to yourself. Wow! I totally forgot I was sitting in a cold theater watching a picture. I only made it a short fashion in and stopped watching when he was literally a ghost with a canvass and holes for eyes. Even so, because of the good reviews I went back and watched the whole movie. If you can get past the ghost being a joke information technology is an ok motion picture. I didn't find it to be that distressing considering it never drew me in to their emotions. It is very slow moving and it isn't until belatedly in the movie when it really unfolds. I found it more cruel than lamentable, and I would never recommend it to anyone. The almost boring and empty movie I have EVER seen, And all the people who liked this 'arty' crab of a movie.

Warning: Spoilers
A young human dies and returns equally a ghost to silently discover and occupy the home he in one case lived in. Fourth dimension passes, his widow moves out, only the ghost waits. Very early in this picture you notice how stunning the cinematography is, a sure sign that the story is defective in depth. In that location are hints of Terence Malick's 'The Tree of Life' here, and some of The Time Machine'due south ideas on the non-linearity of time. Only the picture offers cypher substantial or insightful. Long takes force us to engage for uncomfortably extended periods with i frame, simply at that place is zilch particularly thought-provoking or insightful on offer. A woman avid herself on pie is an especially egregious instance, a scene that was the trigger for the serial of walk-outs that took place at the art-firm cinema in Scotland where I watched this. A party diameter offers up a vacuous voice communication on the fragility and indeterminacy of existence that a literature undergrad would chroma at, never listen a middle-aged man. The principal content of conversation post-viewing was whether this scene or the pie-eating was more than tedious. A ghost that can walk through walls spends literally an eternity trying to fish a piece of newspaper out of a wall. The motion picture has one of those ambiguous endings that is the calling card kop-out of the art-business firm poseur filmmaker. Information technology is beautifully filmed, exquisitely so, but it is scant compensation for the trite storytelling.

Movie version of extending a 1 page report into a v page report past messing with the font and margins.
Ok, I really wanted to like this picture. I get that creative pieces aren't chock full of action and drama and I fifty-fifty spent some fourth dimension reading through all of the positive reviews for this motion picture to try to gain some insight into what they saw in the moving-picture show. I tin't. To say this movie was slow was an understatement. Early on you meet a simple scene unfolding and you lot know it's a deep movie so you wait, and wait and wait (and await) and goose egg happens then the adjacent scene is another unproblematic scene unfolding. Wait wait expect zippo... Like literally nothing. Most 1/2 way in I started fast-forwarding. v minutes of a woman eating a pie. 5 minutes is a long time to watch someone consume pie. And and then cipher... onto the next scene.
I experience like this was a genuinely interesting thought that would have made a mediocre 15 infinitesimal short movie but was given finances to extend to a full feature and nobody went dorsum to add in whatsoever details / character development or plot.

A GHOST STORY is the kind of film that receives praise in Hollywood these days, just for the life of me I can't see what the fuss is nearly. The idea has value, for certain, but the await of the "ghost" is a ridiculous fleck of cocky-referencing post-modernism and one you won't exist able to take seriously. The film'due south pace is slow and languid, the story limited, the characters non-existent. It tells exactly the same story as the Hollywood blockbuster GHOST with Patrick Swayze, except lacking in basic narrative bulldoze and storytelling. A pretentious mess, in other words.

A wonderfully hypnotic and philosophical film exploring the enormity of life
The exploration of the enormity of life when a recently deceased ghost returns to his house to try and reconnect with his wife. Made on a shoe cord and in cloak-and-dagger, it is a hypnotic observation of life and time after we dice and it achieves to visually convey the psychological weight of sure decease and that life volition keep once we're gone. The people sitting next to me left the cinema nigh 20 minutes in because information technology is indeed a very irksome moving pic and I can sympathise why they left simply that's the indicate of the film. Life is non a highlights reel, and this film achieves to testify its enormity through legacy, love and loss. It is philosophical, psychological and extremely poetic. A wonderfully strange moving-picture show.

Watching this was infuriating. Information technology has been a while since I have seen something so boring and pointless. Cipher is worse when a film is trying to convey some philosophical notion and fails miserably, it makes information technology pretentious.
This might accept worked equally a brusk 10min motion-picture show, 92min is just besides much since the viewer is forced to spotter extremely long shots with nothing actually happening. Likewise the rating on this site is much too high.
Y'all can try and watch it merely make sure yous accept something else to do in the meantime too, you can read a book, check your e-post and just glance at the screen every once in a while since information technology's difficult to actually miss anything in this piece of work.

I don't get these reviews.
I just watched a woman practise the dishes in real fourth dimension. And eat a pie in real time. What the hell are all these proficient ratings for? It'southward not good at all. Information technology's a student film. It's tiresome and seriously nothing happens. It'southward truly horrible and one of the worst films I've ever seen.
